What Is Our Goal?
Our primary goal is to take all necessary actions in order to expose the criminal leaders of the coup and place them in a position that it will become personally costly to direct violence against Iranian people. Hopefully our action will reduce bloodshed on the streets and in the prisons. However, even after satisfactory resolution of election disputes we will continue to function as a watchdog against criminal actions of those in power who commit any crime for self interest and expansion of their influence.
What Is Our Strategy To Achieve Our Goal?
We will work hard to pressure the UN Security Council and other international bodies to:
- Freeze the bank accounts of all those affiliated with the coup.
- Void and terminate any financial or technical contracts with the companies owned or affiliated with the coup leaders.
- Bar all coup participants from international travel to the member countries of the UN.
What Are The Stages of Achieving Our Goal?
Stage 1:
Stage 2:
- Formation of Action Committees with the common goal of persuading European, US, UN and Security Council to pass resolutions condemning the leaders of the coup d’état.
- Coordination for an international petition drive with other forces inside and outside Iran to ensure we all communicate with one voice the need to stop bloodshed by pressuring those in position of power. The website blog (http://irancrimewatch.com/blog/) will play a key role in discussions and coordination
Stage 3:
- Coordinated petition drive to all European, American politicians, UN General Secretary, members of UN Security Council and other international authorities for passage of resolutions to target personal interests of those responsible for murders on streets and in prisons.
- Personal contacts with influential politicians to support our cause.
- Contact with media to awaken international consciousness to take responsibility for combating the coup leaders and stopping bloodshed.
Measures of Success:
Our success will be measured by the number of resolutions issued by Europeans and US governments and finally by the resolutions issued by the UN and the Security Council. Ultimately these activities will be a warning to those in power today and those that will come to power in future, indicating to them that committing violence and murder of innocent people will be personally costly to them.
Why Is Our Strategy Workable?
We will petition the United Nations Security Council to pass a resolution naming and condemning those who have engineered the coup d’état and violently suppressed peaceful protesters in subsequent weeks. We propose a resolution similar in form to UN Resolution 1747, passed two years ago, which identified and denounced specific individuals and companies involved in Iran’s nuclear program.
We believe that such a resolution will have considerable impact because it will force coup leaders and affiliates to consider the question of killing civilians as one of financial self-preservation. By increasing the difficulties they face when they enter into business ventures, such a resolution will prohibitively raise the costs of violent suppression. We hope that in the end our proposed resolution will set a precedent for how the United Nations deals with authoritarian governments who violently suppress their own citizens.
